Tutorial: How Do I Use Group By & Split On Chart Controls In Market?

37 STEPS
1. This tutorial will teach you how to use the Group By and Split On chart controls to add more granularity to your analysis.
2. This example features the Assortment analysis tab within the Competitive Pricing default workbook.
But you can use the Group By or Split controls within any workbook module or analysis type.
3. First, check the retailers in your filter panel are to your preference.
You can add or remove any that are not suitable for your analysis.
4. Next, check your Categories and Sub-Categories are right for your analysis.
5. Let's start with splitting on Gender.
You will need to have these selected in the filter panel in order to Group by or Split on Gender.
6. Click the Genders filter.
7. Select the genders you want to compare.
For this example, select Women.
8. Select Men.
9. Click Close.
10. You can then click on the Split On dropdown.
11. Gender will now be clickable, click Gender.
12. Check your chart scale is set to Gender.
This will ensure you see the selected category per gender per retailer for an easy comparison.
13. Click Table.
14. When looking across multiple retailers, the Table View can help you quickly identify key differences.
15. In this example we can see that Nordstrom, Kohl's, and Belk all see a higher proportion of sweatshirts in their women's tops mix.
16. This gender view can help confirm your own assortment strategy or identify a missed opportunity.
17. Click the Switch button to switch the Group By and Split On selections.
18. Now your table will Group By Gender and Split On Retailer.
19. Here the table shows each competitors' tops assortment split grouped by Men.
20. Then further along the table, grouped by Women.
You can Group By or Split On Gender within any analysis tab in your workbook.
You can now continue to the next section.
21. This next example features the Discounts analysis chart within the Competitive Pricing default workbook.
You can Group By or Split On Category within any workbook module or analysis type providing Categories filters are added in the filter panel.
22. Always review your filters. Check your pre-loaded retailers. You can add or remove any needed for your analysis.
23. Within categories, specific jacket subcategories have been selected for analysis.
24. This example looks at the Discounts analysis tab, which shows the percentage of products within your workbook that have a price reduction (discount) against them.
25. Your workbook will always default to Group By Retailer.
26. Hover over the Split On dropdown.
27. Click Category.
28. You will now see discount analysis for each selected subcategory per Retailer.
Now we can easily compare the discounting for each jacket style at Kohl's.
29. Click the Switch button to see each category grouped by retailer instead.
30. Now we can easily compare discounting for bomber jackets across competitors.
How you choose to adjust these controls will depend on your analysis.
31. The details filter has also been utilized within the filter panel to narrow down the jackets by the selected fabrications.
This will allow for more options within the Group By and Split On chart controls, and give you more in-depth category analysis.
32. Hover over the Split On dropdown.
33. Click Product details.
34. The chart will now show discount analysis for each fabrication selected in the filter panel per jacket style.
The results are an aggregate of all the retailers selected in the filter panel.
35. You also always have the option to Aggregate, which will summarize your whole workbook into one chart or table.
36. Click Aggregate.
37. This chart now shows that 53.6% of all Men's Tops at Belk, Kohl's, Macy's, and Nordstrom are T-shirts.
