      Market: How Are Sizes Normalized?

       

      The charts below set out how EDITED splits out sizing for Womenswear, Bras, Childrenswear, Footwear, Towels, and Beds.

      To ensure all users are able to analyze sizes on a global basis, our Data Science team has normalized sizes across markets. In order to normalize sizes, we have to convert all sizes to a single common scale. We chose to convert to a numeric scale, in order to preserve as much detail as possible in the normalized size data. But this means we have to convert named sizes such as S/M/L/XL/XXL into a numeric size. In doing this we use a machine learning model that has learned a set of rules for conversion.

      EDITED Sizes Conversion
      Newborn Matches any SKU names described as (e.g.) “newborn”, “premie”, “tiny baby” and equivalent names in other languages
      Age/cm sizes Matches all SKU names that are described as any of the ages/cm sizes within the selected range. For example, the filter “0-3 months/56-62cm” will match any of: “1 month”, “1-2 months” “56cm” or “0-6 months” etc. SKU names will also match all age range filters that fall within them (e.g. a SKU called “1-5 years” corresponds to 2-3, 3-4, and 4-5 years but not 5-6 years).
      Non-age sizes (XS & smaller – XL & larger) Matches all SKU names that are described as any variation of (e.g.) “XS”, “extra small”, “x-small”, “medium”, “M-L” etc. SKU names that are ranges (e.g. S-M, “medium/large”) will be matched if any of the corresponding sizes are selected (e.g. S-M will be returned if you select “S” or “M”).
      One size Matches all SKU names that are described as any variation of (e.g.) “One size”, “OS” “one size fits all” etc, and equivalent names in other languages.
