Market: How Do I Use The Categories Filter?

Use the Categories filter to select product categories you want to see in your workbook. You can select top-level category groups, such as Tops or Dresses, and/or sub-categories, such as Shirts or Cami/Slip Dresses. You can select any combination of category groups and subcategories.

Scroll down the filter pop-out to see the full list of categories available, and use the checkboxes to make your selection.

The numbers next to each category group or sub-category reflect the number of products that match the filtered search criteria for that category. This number will adapt as you add or remove filters from your workbook.

Click on the arrow below the product numbers to drill down into a category, and use the checkboxes to select from a detailed list of sub-categories. You can navigate back to all categories by clicking Categories at the top of the filter bar.

The filter panel will display selected category groups or sub-categories. To remove a category group or sub-category, click the X within the filter.

Once you have selected your categories, click Close at the top right to close the filter panel.

How Are Products Curated Into Categories?

EDITED Market tracks products from global apparel, homeware, and beauty retailers. These products are sold on e-commerce platforms that employ a diverse set of practices. They are presented in their own language and local currency. Some are organized mirroring internal company structures (e.g., dress vs. tops), some by material (e.g., knit vs. jersey), and others by purpose (e.g., work vs. active). An outlet store, a speciality retailer, and a department store may categorize and describe the exact same product in different ways in their corresponding e-commerce stores.

In order to make sense of our diverse data set, EDITED Market has its own classification of products, made up of categories, subcategories, styles and details. We also normalize certain product characteristics such as color codes, patterns and sizes. This allows users to work with a normalized data set helping to compare like for like.

There may be instances when a product within Market is in the wrong classification group. As a user, you may spot this ahead of our QA team. To assist you with this, you are able to amend curations within the app.

To do this, simply click the X next to the incorrect category and choose the one you think the product best fits into.

Amending curations to be correct supports our data quality and improves the algorithms we use by strengthening their knowledge. However, if you notice a lot of discrepancies or discrepancies across categories, please report the issue through the Contact Support button by clicking the ? Help  icon so we can diagnose the problem.
