Market: What Are The Definitions Of Category Terminology?

Apparel Category groups:

Tops: all clothing that is designed to be worn on the top half of the body, excluding those that would more appropriately belong to other category groups (e.g. outerwear, underwear, swim, nightwear). This includes, but is not limited to, products such as shirts, sweaters, cardigans, t-shirts and tank tops.

Bottoms: all clothing that is designed to be worn on the lower half of the body, excluding those items that would more appropriately belong to other category groups (e.g. underwear, swim, nightwear, hosiery). This includes, but is not limited to, products such as shorts, trousers (pants) and skirts.

Dresses: all items of this garment type, excluding those items that would more appropriately belong to other category groups (e.g. outerwear, tops, all-in-ones, underwear, nightwear, swim).

All-in-Ones: all items that are designed to be worn covering both the top and bottom parts of the body in a singular item, excluding those that would more appropriately belong to other category groups (outerwear, underwear, nightwear, swim). This includes, but is not limited to, products such as dungarees, jumpsuits, playsuits, babygrows and onesies.

Suits and sets: all products where more than one item of different categories are sold together. This includes, but is not limited to, jackets and trousers, or a dress and leggings that can be purchased as one item, or other ‘groups’ of products that are sold together as a single product, to create a look/outfit. The category does not include multi-packs of the same item, or products where there is a main item that is sold with a subsidiary item, such as a shirt and tie or, a top with a detachable collar. Items like this will remain in the category group that the dominant item belongs to.

Outerwear: all items that are designed to be worn as the outer layer or worn outdoors, excluding those that would more appropriately belong to other category groups (e.g. tops, bottoms, all-in-ones). This includes, but is not limited to, products such as coats, jackets, blazers, suit jackets, raincoats.

Hosiery: all items of this garment type, excluding those that would more appropriately belong to other category groups (e.g. underwear, accessories, bottoms). This includes, but is not limited to, products such as socks and tights.

Underwear: all items that are intimate or designed to be worn underneath clothing, excluding those that would more appropriately belong to other category groups (e.g. hosiery, nightwear, swim, accessories). This includes, but is not limited to, products such as boxers, underpants, knickers, bras, shapewear, lingerie.

Footwear: all items that are designed to be worn on the feet, excluding those that would more appropriately belong to other category groups (e.g. underwear, hosiery, accessories). This includes, but is not limited to, products such as boots, shoes, slippers, trainers/sneakers and high heels.

Nightwear: all items that are designed to be worn intimately or to sleep in, excluding those that would more appropriately belong to other category groups (e.g. tops, bottoms, all-in-ones, underwear, footwear). Products include, but are not limited to, pyjamas and night dresses.

Swim: all items that are designed to be worn in or by water, excluding those that would more appropriately belong to other category groups (e.g. tops, bottoms, all-in-ones, underwear, accessories, non-apparel). Products include, but are not limited to, surf shorts, swimming trunks, bikinis or swimsuits.

Accessories: all items that are designed to be worn or used in conjunction with other apparel items, excluding those that would more appropriately belong to other category groups (e.g. hosiery, footwear, outerwear). Products include, but are not limited to, bags, jewelry, umbrellas, scarves or hairbands.

Beauty: all items that are intended to be used to aid or enhance the face or body, excluding those that would more appropriately belong to other category groups (e.g. accessories, hosiery, underwear). Products include, but are not limited to, moisturizers, lipsticks, mascaras, epilators, or tweezers.

Non-Apparel: all items which are not designed to be worn on the body or as an accessory/accompaniment to apparel items. This includes, but is not limited to, products such as, stationery, photo frames, or books.

 

Homeware Category groups:

Bedroom: All furnishings that are designed for use in a bedroom, excluding those that would more appropriately belong to other category groups (e.g. living room, lighting or home accessories). This includes, but is not limited to, products such as beds, bedding, wardrobes and nightstands.

Bathroom: All furnishings that are designed for use in a bathroom, excluding those that would more appropriately belong to other category groups (e.g. home accessories, home appliances or lighting). This includes, but is not limited to, products such as towels, shower curtains and bath mats.

Kitchen & Dining: All furnishings that are designed for use in a kitchen or dining room, excluding those that would more appropriately belong to other category groups (e.g. home accessories, home appliances or lighting). This includes, but is not limited to, products such as tables and chairs, cutlery and cookware.

Living Room: All furnishings that are designed for use in a living room, excluding those that would more appropriately belong to other category groups (e.g. lighting, home accessories or bedroom). This includes, but is not limited to, products such as sofas, coffee tables and TV stands.

Outdoor: All furnishings that are designed for use outdoors, excluding those that would more appropriately belong to other category groups (e.g. home accessories, kitchen and dining or lighting). This includes, but is not limited to, products such as outdoor tables and chairs, garden buildings and planters. 

Home Accessories: All furnishings that are designed as decorative accessories for the home, excluding those that would more appropriately belong to other category groups (e.g. bedroom, living room or kitchen and dining). This includes, but is not limited to, products such as candles, rugs and mats and curtains and blinds.

Home Appliances: All products that are designed for use in performing household functions such as cooking and cleaning, excluding those that would more appropriately belong to other category groups (e.g kitchen and dining, home accessories or outdoor). This includes, but is not limited to, products such as ovens, washing machines and dishwashers.

Lighting: All furnishings that are designed for lighting purposes, excluding those that would more appropriately belong to other category groups (e.g. home appliances, home accessories or outdoor). This includes, but is not limited to, products such as floor lamps, lampshades and ceiling lights.

Home Office: All furnishings that are designed for use in a home office, excluding those that would more appropriately belong to other category groups (e.g. home accessories, bedroom or lighting). This includes, but is not limited to, products such as desks, desk chairs and filing cabinets.

Pet Care: All products that are designed for pets, excluding food products and those that would more appropriately belong to other category groups (e.g. home accessories, home appliances or living room). This includes, but is not limited to, products such as pet clothing, pet beds and pet toys.

Seasonal: All homeware products that are designed for seasonal events, excluding those that would more appropriately belong to other category groups (e.g. pet care, lighting or kitchen and dining). This includes, but is not limited to, products such as christmas trees, baubles and christmas ornaments and sculptures.
